Josh Stein. The video was taken down on June 26 after reports surfaced that the booth’s monitors, while primarily showing the current state flag, were also broadcasting a split-screen video display that included the Confederate flag. The issue gained widespread attention after a reporter from Spectrum News highlighted the display on social media.

The North Carolina pavilion at the Great American State Fair is not an official state-sponsored exhibit, but rather part of a larger event celebrating the upcoming 250th anniversary of the nation on July 4. The fair is organized by Freedom 250, a nonprofit aligned with President Donald Trump, which has described the event as a modern-day World’s Fair dedicated to showcasing American traditions and innovation.

A representative for Governor Stein stated on June 27 that the display of the Confederate flag did not represent North Carolina. The governor’s office confirmed that a member of his team communicated with event organizers, leading to the removal of the specific video. The spokesperson emphasized that the display was not reflective of the state, noting that the America 250 event is intended to promote national unity. The governor’s office further noted that an official state celebration for the nation’s 250th anniversary is scheduled for July 4 in Raleigh, focusing on the Declaration of Independence and values of equality and freedom.

North Carolina’s official state flag has never contained Confederate symbols in either of its two iterations. The state government had previously declined to sponsor an official booth at the fair due to budget concerns. Instead, the pavilion was funded by private North Carolina companies including SPEVCO, Richard Childress Racing, Operation Helo, and the Mt. Olive Pickle Company. The involvement of these sponsors has been a point of political tension, with State House Majority Leader Rep. Brenden Jones, a Republican, accusing the Democratic governor of fabricating a political crisis regarding the event’s funding.

Freedom 250 organizers claimed the display was not part of the approved concept and was included unintentionally. Lorie Khatod, a volunteer and former chief of staff to Rep. Nancy Mace, stated that organizers became aware of the unapproved image on Friday and took immediate action to remove the video while launching an internal review. However, the controversy prompted the Mt. Olive Pickle Company to announce its withdrawal from the exhibit. The company stated on social media that it was unaware the Confederate flag image was included in the video, emphasizing that its values center on human dignity, opportunity, and freedom.

A controversial video display featuring the Confederate flag at the North Carolina booth on the National Mall has been taken down by organizers following public backlash.

[106
891,296,295,890,889
post-1136","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-other","tag-confederate-flag","tag-freedom-250","tag-great-american-state-fair","tag-josh-stein","tag-north-carolina
["GET
