UN Commission Accuses Israel of Intentionally Targeting Children

A UN-appointed independent commission reported on Tuesday that the Israeli military had engaged in the deliberate targeting of children residing in Gaza and the West Bank. According to the commission, these actions in Gaza constitute genocide, while the operations in the West Bank are classified as war crimes.

This inquiry body, which is currently calling for international organizations to ensure Israeli officials are held accountable for these findings, consists of three high-ranking international jurists and is presided over by former Indian judge Srinivasan Muralidhar. The panel previously released findings in September, in which they concluded that the military operations conducted by Israel in Gaza fulfilled the legal criteria for genocide. This assessment has been increasingly supported by various genocide researchers, including a selection of human rights groups and scholars within Israel.

In response to the accusations brought forward by the UN commission, the Israeli Foreign Ministry formally rejected the allegations, characterizing the report and its conclusions as a “libelous sham.”
