During its meeting on Wednesday, the Kerala Cabinet officially designated Bishwanath Sinha, a distinguished 1992-batch IAS officer, as the state’s next Chief Secretary. He is slated to assume this pivotal administrative role starting July 1. Sinha will take over from the incumbent Chief Secretary, A Jayathilak, who is scheduled to conclude his tenure and retire from service on June 30. This significant administrative decision was confirmed by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

In a separate but equally important decision made during the same session, the Cabinet resolved to recommend the appointment of N Seshadrinath, a retired district judge, to the crucial post of State Election Commissioner. This recommendation, following the Cabinet’s deliberation, will now be formally forwarded to the Governor for his final consideration and approval, a necessary step for the formalization of the appointment to this independent constitutional office.

Additionally, the Cabinet gave its formal assent to the appointment of N Anilkumar as the Special Government Pleader specifically designated for the Lokayukta, an important anti-corruption ombudsman institution. The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) also reported that the Cabinet cleared the appointments of several other legal professionals. These include the designation of four Special Government Pleaders, along with 12 Senior Government Pleaders, and an additional 24 Government Pleaders, all of whom are slated to serve in the Kerala High Court, thereby strengthening the state’s legal representation.
