Drone strikes and artillery shelling resulted in civilian deaths on both sides of the Russia-Ukraine border this past Saturday, according to local officials. In the Russian border territory of Bryansk, the acting regional governor, Yegor Kovalchuk, reported on Telegram that a Ukrainian drone attack struck a vehicle, killing two occupants near the border.
Separately, Russia’s Defense Ministry informed state news agencies that they had intercepted 124 Ukrainian drones across various Russian regions between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., or 1 a.m. to 1 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin provided ongoing updates throughout the day regarding drones targeting the capital, with Russian news agencies informally counting 24 of these intercepted devices.
Inside Ukraine, the governor of the southeastern Dnipropetrovsk Region, Oleksandr Ganzha, reported that over 40 drone and artillery strikes occurred in the area. These attacks resulted in one death and left another person injured in the vicinity of Nikopol, a town frequently targeted by Russian forces due to its location across the Dnipro River from the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
Furthermore, Denis Pushilin, the Moscow-appointed official for Russian-controlled territories in Ukraine’s Donetsk region, stated on Telegram that Ukrainian drone operations in the major towns of Horlivka and Makiivka were responsible for the deaths of two additional civilians.
