Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan have accepted an invitation from King Charles III to stay at a royal residence for at least a portion of their upcoming journey to England. A representative for the couple confirmed in a news release that the Duke, 41, and Duchess of Sussex, 44, intend to stay in a combination of both royal estates and private quarters during what marks their first joint return to the United Kingdom in four years.

The trip is scheduled for July 7 through July 11, though no further specifics regarding their lodging arrangements were provided. Representatives for the couple declined to comment on whether Harry and Meghan expect to hold meetings with King Charles III or other members of the royal family during their stay. USA TODAY has reached out to Buckingham Palace for comment on the matter.

The couple will be accompanied by their two children, 7-year-old Prince Archie and 5-year-old Princess Lilibet, though the children will not participate in any public engagements. The last time the couple visited the United Kingdom together was in September 2022 to attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, a service that concluded the late monarch’s historic 70-year reign.

Following their decision to step back from their positions as senior working royals in 2020—a move frequently referred to as “Megxit”—the couple relocated to California, where they currently reside. Harry has previously voiced concerns regarding his family’s safety, noting that the loss of taxpayer-funded security after his departure from royal duties hindered his ability to bring his wife and children to the U.K. In May 2025, Harry lost a court appeal concerning the level of security he and his family are provided while in Britain, leaving the specific security protocols for this upcoming visit unclear.

Representatives for the Sussexes stated that the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (RAVEC) has failed to conduct a risk management board for the upcoming trip, despite receiving six months of notice and assurances that such an assessment would be finished by March. The representatives noted that according to RAVEC’s own terms of reference, an assessment should occur at least annually, yet the Duke’s last review took place nearly seven years ago.

Since moving to California, the pair has formally surrendered their royal patronages and honorary military appointments. This included Harry stepping down from his roles with the Rugby Football Union and the Rugby Football League, while Meghan relinquished her role with the Royal National Theatre. Since transitioning away from their royal roles, the couple has pursued several business endeavors, including the establishment of Archewell Productions and the launch of Meghan’s lifestyle brand, As Ever.
